How It Works
Welcome to the "Tutorial" page of the Mind:Scape project, where we dive into the innovative process behind our XR application. Our goal is to provide an intuitive and immersive experience that allows users to relive their memories through detailed 3D scans of places and objects. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how our application functions, from capturing real-world scenes to viewing them in virtual reality.
Safety and Best Practices
Prepare Your Space
Remove any obstacles from your surroundings and use moderate lighting to optimize visibility and sensor accuracy. Make sure the area is safe and free from tripping hazards.
Health and Comfort
Schedule regular 10-minute breaks for every 30 minutes of usage to prevent VR fatigue and eye strain. Stay hydrated and uphold hygiene by cleaning the headset and controllers regularly, especially when sharing.
Handle Equipment Carefully
Handle VR and 3D scanning equipment with care and store them properly to avoid damage. Implement cable management solutions to prevent tripping over wires during use.
Respect Privacy and Safety
Be respectful of others' privacy when using 3D scanning and obtain necessary permissions. Supervise children closely, following age restrictions and ensuring content is suitable for their age.

High-Quality 3D Scanning with Luma AI
Step-by-Step Guide
01
Preparation
Choose a well-lit environment for the scan. Remove any unnecessary objects from the area, ideal conditions will improve the accuracy and quality of your 3D model.
03
Capturing the Scan
Once you complete the scanning loop, submit the captured images within the app. Luma AI will process these images, employing advanced algorithms to stitch them together into a cohesive and detailed 3D model.
02
Starting the Scan
Open the Luma AI app on your device, select the plus button in the middle and carefully begin capturing images. Slowly circle the object or area you are scanning, maintaining a consistent speed and distance to capture every angle and detail.
04
Processing the Scan
Once the scan is complete, submit it for processing. The app will stitch together all angles to create a seamless 3D model. You may then view the scan.
Preparing Gaussian Splat Files
Step-by-Step Guide
01
Download the Files
Download the Gaussian splat files, typically in PLY format, from your Luma AI scan to your computer. Save them in an easily accessible location for future processing.
03
Check Compatability
Check that the files are in PLY format, as this is the format required for Gracia AI. If any files are not in PLY format you may download the correct ones Luma AI.
02
Extract the Files
If your files are compressed, extract them into a specific folder on your PC. Organize this folder to maintain a clear file structure, which will make future access easier.
04
Organise and Label Your Files
Arrange the files systematically in the folder and label them clearly for easy identification. Effective labeling is essential, especially when working with multiple scans or projects. This organization will be useful when uploading files to Gracia AI for VR visualization

Setting Up Gracia AI for VR Viewing
Step-by-Step Guide
01
System Preparation
Ensure your PC meets the minimum requirements: an Intel i7 or AMD Ryzen 7 processor, NVIDIA RTX 3060 or higher GPU, at least 16GB of RAM, and a compatible PC VR headset such as Oculus Quests or HTC Vive. Then, download and install Gracia AI from the official website and install SteamVR (Meta Link or OpenXR also applicable) for VR compatibility.
02
Install and Configure Gracia AI
Run and install Gracia AI, following the instructions to complete the setup. Then, connect your VR headset to your computer using Meta Link or SteamVR, depending on your headset model. Ensure the connection is secure and the device is recognized by your PC.
03
Import Gaussian Splat files
Open Gracia AI and select the 'Upload your scene' function to access your Gaussian splat files for 3D viewing.
04
Engage in VR Exploration
Put on your VR headset, activate the VR mode in Gracia AI, and use the controllers to navigate and interact with the 3D environment in an immersive setting.
